Vancouver's Seymour Mountain General Information
If you like forest trails, panoramic views and a detour off the beaten track, then head to Mount Seymour Provincial Park. Getting there is a rich and rewarding experience by itself. The Mount Seymour Road departs from the Mount Seymour Parkway and winds 13 km up the mountain side.
You will eventually pass two lookouts along the way. One offers a wondrous view of Deep Cove and the Indian Arm and the other offers a breathtaking view of the city landscape.
From the parking lot, you stand at a breathless elevation of about 1037m. You can begin with an easy and rewarding forest hike that will take you from the base of the Mystery Peak chairlift to the far end of Dinkey Peak. From here you will see Vancouver stretch out below you, with the Gulf Island stretching out across the Strait of Georgia.
During the winter months, you will find that the alpine skiing season in full swing. Seymour Ski Country offers extensive ski instructions; from beginners to advance; rentals and nightskiing, all of which are at a very reasonable price.
Seymour Demonstration Forest
As part of Vancuver's vital watershed, the lower valley of the Seymour River was off-limit to the public for 50 years before it was opened in 1987. This 5600 hectare area offers 40 km of recreational trails, fishing and kayaking (with proper permits) as well as a forestry educational centre.
Father upstream, you can find the Seymour Dam. The trail towards the dam is open to those wishing to ride their bicycles during the weekend. You can also find the Seymour Fish Hatchery where you can learn how a salmon farm is operated.
